Cardboard Prototype – Rule-Based Interior Installation at the University of the Arts
This full-scale prototype, created during the experimental summer course AA Buildinglab at the University of the Arts, explores aggregated, rule-based design using ordinary cardboard as the sole material. Installed within the school’s gallery space, the intervention functions as a large-scale, immersive interior sculpture — merging digital logic with physical intuition.
The design emerged from a study of pseudocode-based systems and self-imposed construction rules. By leveraging the structural logic of standard cardboard boxes, the team transformed the flaps into a universal connection detail. This allowed for the creation of an aggregated system that could be sculpted in three dimensions — adapting to light, movement, and ergonomic needs.
The installation responds not only to its users but also to its context, filtering daylight and defining space through repetition and variation. The result is a tactile, performative interior environment made entirely from recyclable materials — challenging conventional notions of structure, form, and finish in interior design and architectural prototyping.
