Naarden fortress is a seventeenth-century fortified town with a hexagonal plan of ramparts and moats, and a protected townscape. Building or renovating within the fortress requires precise work: small plots, historic buildings and a strongly coherent townscape.
Outside the fortress lie residential districts and villa areas with more space. Naarden is part of the municipality of Gooise Meren; plans are tested against the omgevingsplan and assessed by the municipality's committee. Through Hof van Eeden in Bussum we know how Gooise Meren works.

Can I renovate within the fortress?
Yes, but with extra care. Many buildings are monuments or lie in the protected townscape; then a permit is often needed, even for smaller interventions.
